Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath formed in 1968, first calling themselves Earth as a blue-rock outfit. Around 1970 they changed styles dramatically and their name to Black Sabbath. While critics panned their efforts in the early 1970s the fans did the opposite. Black Sabbath helped define Heavy Metal, leaving the sound of their Glam-Rock contemporaries completely. From 1979 onwards the band went through many line-up changes with only founding member Tony Iommi staying through every incarnation.
