Beastie Boys

Formed as a Punk band quartet in 1979 they quickly gained fame in the New York City underground and punk scene. In 1984 Rick Rubin signed the band and changed their style to hip-hop. Original drummer Kate Shellenbach left at that time and the group left most of their punk roots behind. They went on to become a megastar hip-hop act, "Licsense To Ill" was the first rap album to reach #1 on the billboards. The group has also won several Grammies.
